
Petra Borner is like a subliminal message; transmitted through book jackets and Ikea patterns, magazine covers and giant billboard campaigns. Her distinctive botanical style graces so many mediums that her art begins to take on a genre of its own till you realise it is Borner alone who is taking over the design world with her addictive imagery.
Borner was born in Sweden and grew up in a home where craft and textile art was a declared family hobby. Idyllically her summers would often be spent in the family’s garden with extended family, experimenting with dying yarns and fabrics, creating batik or sewing. Drawing and creativity as encouraged so Borner never considered a career beyond art.
After graduating in 1999, Borner worked within the fashion industry in London and New York, launching her own label whilst producing fashion illustrations for magazines. Three years later realising her heart lay in art and illustration, she focused full-time on refining the eye-catching style which was to become her trademark…
