In school, she had trouble learning to read until she introduced herself to the works of Charles Dickens. Hers writings have been listed for recommended reading by the Ontario Library Association, and the Canadian Library Association have not only short listed her works but in 1993 she won the Young Adult Canadian Book Awards which is just one of many writings awards. One of the trademarks of a tanka (besides the traditional five lines of 5-7-5-7-7 onji -- syllables) is a short poetic statement depicting nature (here it may seem much like something you could call a haiku) which is linked to a designated feeling or emotional attitude of the author.

Died August 25, 2015 Ottawa, Ontario. 1960 she worked as a student intern for the Winnipeg Free Press and she never forgot the enjoyment of journalism. Her contributions include Mannaru Dasavilasamau. His The Cry of Vietnam (1968) contains 15 poems about the devastation of war and the horrors inflicted by all sides. Translated by Jane Hirshfield with Mariko Aratani. These lyrical poems do not translate the Yiddish, but engage with it, bringing it back to life and making the poem, like the poet, incomplete without both halves interwoven.

I met her at a dinner in Belfast at the university. In 1961-62 she worked as editor The Stoney Creek News for Brabant Publishers, who had purchased the weekly newspaper. In 1951 she immigrated to Canada from England with her husband and family. Marguerite married Harry Elton (d2004) and there was a second marriage to Bill Young. Long experience in what survives of women's writing before the mid-20th century has taught me that when a woman writes down what is angry, rebellious, subversive, or simply reveals personal harm, some local cruelty or just dissatisfaction, that portion of her text is reframed, abridged, or destroyed before publication or after the woman dies.

Emily Bronte is best known for her novel Wuthering Heights (1847), and her poetry. Unlike the liminal female landscapes of other poems, the strong female here is forced to grow 'in his place'. Her inventive writing style, range of themes, and unique capacity for embracing contradiction make her work difficult to classify, and many critics have dismissed her for that reason. Today's poem is written in rhyming couplets, but stanza four is s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out onto four lines instead of two.
